Controversy Surrounds Adán Augusto López and Former Security Chief

The controversy surrounding former Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López Hernández, and his former security chief in Tabasco, Hernán Bermúdez Requena, is intensifying.

A journalistic investigation has revealed that during López Hernández’s tenure as head of the Secretary of the Interior, permits to operate casinos were renewed and expanded for a company directly linked to Humberto Bermúdez Requena, brother of the now fugitive former official.

The investigation, conducted by Emeequis, uncovers a network of relationships that sheds new light on the inner circle of the current senator from Morena.

Adán Augusto Granted Registrations to Bermúdez’s Company

According to the findings, Humberto Bermúdez Requena established the company Controladora de Inversiones y Promociones del Sureste in 2017. The registration of this company was formalized in a notary’s office in Tabasco where Adán Augusto López was serving as head.

Subsequently, in 2018, under the administration of Enrique Peña Nieto, this business network obtained, through the firm PUR UZAMAL TOV, permits from the Secretary of the Interior for the operation of a remote betting center and number drawing rooms, valid until 2029.

Registry documents identify the companies Con Suerte Y Alegría Guaymas, S.A.P.I. De C.V., Con Suerte Y Alegría Navojoa, S.A. P.I. De C.V., and Con Suerte Y Alegría En Carmen S.A.P.I. De C.V., all owned by Humberto Bermúdez, as recognized suppliers of PUR UZAMAL TOV.

In October 2022, with Adán Augusto López already serving as head of the Secretary of the Interior, the federal agency granted PUR UZAMAL TOV a 10-year extension to its casino operating license.

With this extension, the permits that originally expired in 2029 now extend until 2039, consolidating a long-term business for the business network linked to the brother of who was one of Adán Augusto López’s most trusted men during his governorship in Tabasco.

The Bermúdez Requena Case

Hernán Bermúdez Requena, who was the head of the state police in the government of Adán Augusto López, is accused of being the leader of the criminal group ‘La Barredora’, a gang dedicated to fuel theft, extortion, and migrant trafficking.

The federal government issued an arrest warrant since last February, but according to military intelligence documents leaked by Guacamaya Leaks, the accusations against the former official began in 2021.

Journalist José Luis Montenegro released part of the report from the Regional Intelligence Fusion Center (CERFI) Southeast prepared for the National Intelligence Center entitled Regional Crime Diagnosis.

In that report, delivered on October 28, 2021, to the CNI, Bermúdez Requena, nicknamed ‘Commander H’, was already identified as the leader of “La Barredora”, along with Carlos Tomás Díaz Rodríguez, nicknamed ‘Lic. Tomás’, in Tabasco and even linked him to another fuel theft operation in Chiapas.

Although Bermúdez Requena has not given his version of the events, since April of this year he filed an appeal to avoid his arrest.
