Kristich Group Seeks Extension for Hotel Fuente Mayor Opening in Mendoza

The Kristich Group has formally requested a 150-day extension from the Provincial Institute of Games and Casinos (IPJyC) of Mendoza for the opening of the Hotel Fuente Mayor. This hotel is tied to the Casino de San Martín project, which was initially slated to launch in 2023, according to the bidding terms.

In their petition, submitted on March 14 by Fuente Mayor and New Star Internacional, the companies cited “external circumstances” as the reason for needing the five-month extension. They believe this additional time will allow them to “successfully complete the hotel’s opening, ensuring the quality of service promised and expected by future guests, the Institute, and the community.”

Furthermore, the group is requesting that the IPJyC remove itself from the hotel project, arguing that “the relationship with the Institute is limited exclusively to the operation of the gaming room.” They stated, “The remaining stages offered, including the Hotel, are accessory works that, once completed, fall outside the scope of the IPJyC’s competence.”

Local news outlet MDZ reached out to the Mendoza Provincial Government and the IPJyC, who confirmed that a response to the request is still pending.

“The company has submitted an extension request. This has been forwarded to [Ministry of] Infrastructure, which is evaluating what the company has presented. The Institute of Games and Casinos will make its decision based on the report issued by Infrastructure,” officials from the organization led by Ida López stated.

Earlier this year, in February, provincial senator Félix González filed a legal complaint against Mario Isgró, the former Minister of Planning and Infrastructure of Mendoza, and anyone else involved in the delay in the construction of the Hotel Fuente Mayor.

At the time, González pointed out that the 18-month extension granted to the Kristich Group, the company responsible for building a four-star establishment with 55 rooms, an exclusive spa, a top-tier gym, and a heated pool, among other amenities, was about to expire.
