DGOJ Updates Online Gaming Verification Service in Spain

The Spanish Directorate General for Gambling Regulation (DGOJ) has released the latest version of its Web Service Specification for Player Verification (SVJ-WS). This technical document outlines the operational and functional requirements that online gaming operators in Spain must adhere to when verifying the identity and registration status of their users.

This service enables real-time verification of player identities, validates their age, and checks their status in the General Register of Access Bans to Gambling (RGIAJ).

Key Updates in the New Version

The updated specification introduces several key improvements:

  • New response codes: Added for inadmissible documents.
  • Expanded test cases: Particularly concerning the use of the DNI or NIE support number.
  • Updated application process: Streamlined the service registration procedure, detailed in section 4.4 of the document.
  • Consolidated functionalities: Reinforces features added in recent versions, such as periodic review operations, review confirmation, and death verification, all aimed at strengthening player controls.

Availability

The new version will be available in the production environment starting May 19, 2025, following a short pre-production period that began on May 12.

Enhancing Player Protection

These updates demonstrate the DGOJ’s commitment to enhancing player protection and ensuring a safe and responsible online gaming environment in Spain. By strengthening identity verification processes and expanding control mechanisms, the DGOJ aims to minimize risks associated with online gambling.
