Responsible Gaming Advisory Council Gets a Refresh, New Safe Gambling Program on the Horizon
Madrid, June 19, 2025 – The Responsible Gaming Advisory Council has a new lineup! The council met this morning to welcome its new members.
During the meeting, the General Directorate of Gaming Regulation (DGOJ) unveiled the draft of the Safe Gambling Program 2026-2030. This program outlines the strategic direction for the next four years.
A New Chapter for the Advisory Council
The DGOJ, under the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs, and Agenda 2030, hosted the inaugural session of the newly revamped Responsible Gaming Advisory Council. This change comes after the previous council’s term ended in May. Mikel Arana, Director General of Gaming Regulation, presided over the meeting as council president.
The council includes a diverse group of experts. Professionals and representatives from the General State Administration and Autonomous Communities are involved. Experts from the scientific, healthcare, and academic fields, who focus on gambling-related disorders, are also participating. Representatives from institutions, organizations, and associations connected to the gaming sector and gaming operators complete the council’s composition.
Safe Gambling Program 2026-2030: A Closer Look
Beyond the council’s formation, the meeting highlighted the DGOJ’s presentation of the Safe Gambling Program 2026-2030 proposal. This strategic document sets the course for the next four years.
The program focuses on three key priorities:
- Analysis and Diagnosis: Understanding the current situation.
- Prevention and Promotion: Encouraging safe gambling practices.
- Participant Protection: Safeguarding players.
The program includes six general objectives and 22 specific measures. These aim to foster new collaborations with the Advisory Council.
Next Steps
The new council has three months to provide feedback on the draft program. The goal is to reach a consensus and approve a final document at the next Advisory Council meeting. This document will then guide public policy on safe gambling.
