eCOGRA Gains Accreditation in Brazil’s Expanding iGaming Market

In a significant move for the burgeoning Brazilian iGaming sector, eCOGRA, a leading independent testing laboratory, has secured accreditation from the Prizes and Betting Secretariat of the Ministry of Finance. This accreditation, formalized through Ordinance 588 and published in the Official Gazette of the Union this past Friday (12th), allows eCOGRA to certify betting systems, live gaming studios, and online games for fixed-odd betting lottery operators in Brazil.

The accreditation follows the publication of Ordinance 300/2024 at the end of February, which outlined the testing laboratory accreditation rules for the sports betting and iGaming sector, including certificate models for platforms, sportsbooks, online games, and live game studios.

This recognition is valid for three years from the date of publication, contingent upon maintaining legal qualification, tax and labor compliance, suitability, and technical competence as demonstrated in the accreditation process.

Strategic Expansion into a Promising Market

“eCOGRA is committed to expanding its international offering into new jurisdictions that regulate online gaming where certification is required,” stated lawyer Udo Seckelmann, who spearheaded the laboratory’s approval process. “The Brazilian market represents a significant opportunity for the global iGaming industry, and eCOGRA looks forward to supporting new and existing customers entering this market.”

“It was a pleasure for the Bichara e Motta Advogados team to work on this process with eCOGRA and the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets of the Ministry of Finance,” added a representative from Bichara e Motta Advogados.

Building on Previous Success

This latest accreditation builds upon eCOGRA’s prior approval by Lottopar as a certified laboratory for comprehensive testing of platforms, systems, games, and regulations authorized in the state of Paraná.

A History of Integrity and Expertise

Founded in 2003 in the United Kingdom, eCOGRA (e-Commerce Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance) has a long-standing reputation as a self-regulatory body dedicated to monitoring fair gaming practices, player protection, and responsible conduct by operators, suppliers, and service providers in the online gaming industry.

Over the years, eCOGRA has expanded its responsibilities to include inspecting, testing, and certifying online games. It has earned recognition from major regulated gambling jurisdictions across Europe, in six American states, and in two Canadian provinces. In South America, eCOGRA is approved in Colombia, Peru, and in Argentina, specifically in the City and Province of Buenos Aires, as well as in Mendoza.
