Italian Gaming Official Emphasizes Technology and Training for a Safer Industry

Rome – Mario Lollobrigida, Director of Gaming at the Customs and Monopolies Agency, has stressed the importance of new technologies and continuous training in strengthening the legality of the public gaming sector in Italy.

Speaking at an event promoted by Novomatic Italia, Lollobrigida stated that technological innovation is crucial for promoting safer, legal, and more responsible gaming. He believes that “we must be able to seize all the opportunities offered by digital innovation,” adding that “artificial intelligence, remote control systems, and interconnected platforms can represent a real ally in the fight against illegal gambling.”

However, Lollobrigida cautioned against focusing solely on the entertainment device sector. “Legal gaming is much broader and involves different segments that deserve equal attention and regulation,” he explained.

Training is also a key area of focus, with efforts underway to ensure it is “continuous, homogeneous throughout the national territory, and accessible to all figures involved in the gaming sector.” Lollobrigida also highlighted the important role of gaming hall operators, who “often have direct contact with players and can pick up on signs of distress or compulsive behaviors, intervening in a timely manner.”

While some regions already offer courses for gaming operators, Lollobrigida emphasized that the issue needs to be addressed at the national level, expressing hope that a national framework will be adopted as soon as possible.
