Liam Kinsella

Hi, I’m Liam Kinsella, a 38-year-old Irishman with a lifelong love for sport and a career shaped by the fast-moving world of iGaming. I’ve spent the majority of my professional life in the industry, working across everything from operations and customer experience to product and innovation. My passion for iGaming was sparked when I was a teenager after attending my first race night at Dundalk Stadium. I’ll never forget the atmosphere, the intensity, and the connection people had to the sport. It was electric. That night opened my eyes to a world where entertainment, competition, and community all came together. Since then, I’ve worked with some fantastic teams and brands, helping to create engaging experiences that bring that same thrill to players around the globe. Outside of work, I’m a big sports fan. Rugby, football, racing, even a bit of darts. I’ve also got a soft spot for gardening; there’s something therapeutic about switching off and spending a few hours with the plants. When I’m not outdoors, I’m usually reading - anything from sports biographies to thrillers. I’m proud to be part of the global tech and gaming space, and I’m always looking for new ways to push the boundaries of what iGaming can offer.

Spanish Basketball League Joins Fight Against Match-Fixing

In a move to bolster the integrity of professional basketball, the Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto (ACB), the governing body of Spain’s top-tier basketball league, has partnered with the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ), the Spanish gambling regulator.

The ACB has officially joined the DGOJ’s newly established Global Betting Market Investigation Service. This collaboration aims to combat match-fixing and other forms of sports fraud through real-time information sharing and coordinated investigations.

Key Aspects of the Agreement

The agreement outlines several key areas of cooperation:

  • Objective: The ACB’s integration into the DGOJ’s Global Betting Market Investigation Service.
  • Purpose: To share information regarding suspicious or irregular betting patterns and collaboratively analyze this data to identify potential instances of manipulation.
  • Data Access: Access to personal data is restricted. Only the DGOJ, law enforcement agencies, and regional police forces will have access to personal data of those involved. The ACB will only have access to alerts it submits and information deemed appropriate by the DGOJ.
  • Data Protection: The DGOJ is responsible for ensuring compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The ACB will act as a data processor.

Fighting Fraud

The agreement establishes an electronic alert system for exchanging information between public administrations, security forces, sports federations, and gambling operators. This system will enable the prompt communication, investigation, and sanctioning of irregular activities, safeguarding the integrity of competitions and protecting the interests of players and fans.

This one-year agreement, which is renewable, positions Spain at the forefront of the fight against sports fraud within the European Union. It also reinforces the commitment of both the DGOJ and the ACB to transparency and ethical conduct in sports.

The official announcement can be found in the Boletín Oficial del Estado.

Commitment to Responsible Gaming

This initiative underscores the importance of responsible gaming. Resources are available for those seeking information and support.
