Mexico’s Interior Secretary Addresses Corruption Concerns with Casino Owners

Mexico’s Interior Secretary, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, is actively engaged in discussions with casino owners across the country to proactively prevent potential corruption cases, according to President Claudia Sheinbaum.

During her morning press conference this Friday, President Sheinbaum explained that Secretary Rodríguez is emphasizing the importance of immediate reporting should any instances of corruption be detected, to effectively prevent such schemes from taking root.

Sheinbaum acknowledged the possibility of lingering corruption, stating, “There might still be [corruption] in some servers who remained from the past era, prior to President López Obrador’s arrival.”

The President emphasized that “This effort is part of the current government’s commitment to eliminate corrupt practices and improve transparency in the gaming and lottery industry.”

Furthermore, during her morning briefing, Sheinbaum clarified that despite recent announcements from Ricardo Monreal, the president of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) in the Chamber of Deputies, there is no new Law of Games and Sweepstakes currently under consideration.

The current law governing games and sweepstakes dates back to 1946 and is considered obsolete, the head of the Executive branch noted, but there is no concrete proposal for its modification at this time.

Finally, Sheinbaum praised the head of Segob, describing her as a “very honest woman of character, an extraordinary public servant, one of the best our country has.”
