ROME – The Council of Ministers is expected to approve the Sports Decree this afternoon. Andrea Abodi, Minister for Sport and Youth, along with other relevant ministries, has been working on the text. The decree includes the appointment of a commissioner for new stadiums but does not contain any measures related to betting.

ROME – According to Riccardi, a Health Official from Friuli Venezia-Giulia, “The regional law of 2014 on gambling addiction has made a significant effort in preventing, treating, and combating gambling addiction. However, it probably needs to be implemented further to make it more responsive.” He suggests a more comprehensive strategy is needed.

Italian Financial Police Uncover Hundreds of Illegal Betting Shops

ROME – From January 1, 2024, to May 31, 2025, the Guardia di Finanza (Italian Financial Police) discovered 377 illegal betting shops. In 2024 and the first five months of 2025, the Guardia di Finanza carried out over a million interventions and approximately 106,000 investigations to combat financial crimes and criminal infiltration.
