Crackdown on Illegal Gambling in Pescara Province
Pescara – A coordinated effort by multiple law enforcement agencies has led to a series of inspections targeting illegal gambling operations in the province of Pescara. The operation, conducted under the auspices of the CoPReGI (Committee for the Prevention and Repression of Illegal Gambling), involved the Abruzzo Monopolies Office, the Guardia di Finanza (Financial Police), the Carabinieri, and the State Police.
Officials from the Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli (Customs and Monopolies Agency) carried out numerous inspections of businesses throughout the province. The goal was to protect citizens and prevent the illicit erosion of state revenue derived from illegal gambling activities. These businesses were specifically selected based on a thorough risk analysis, utilizing gathered intelligence, on-the-ground observations, and coordinated information sharing between the participating agencies.
Extensive Operation Uncovers Violations
Between May 20th and May 31st, 2025, a total of 19 interventions were carried out across the provincial territory. These interventions included planned inspections of various types of businesses offering different forms of gambling.
The inspections revealed several administrative violations related to entertainment taxes and the failure to display the list of prohibited games, as required by Article 110 of the T.U.L.P.S. (Testo Unico delle Leggi di Pubblica Sicurezza – Consolidated Law on Public Safety), in two establishments. This violation constitutes a criminal offense, leading to the reporting of the crime to the competent judicial authority.
Unauthorized Gaming Machines and Unattended Arcades
Authorities also discovered six unauthorized Amusement With Prize (AWP) machines and one unattended arcade.
The collaborative effort between the involved administrations and the precise operational coordination in the gambling sector has enabled the Abruzzo Monopolies Office to effectively monitor its area of responsibility. This is aimed at preventing illegal gambling and betting activities.
