Crackdown on Illegal Gambling in Pescara Province

Pescara – A joint operation targeting illegal gambling activities has been conducted in the province of Pescara, Italy. The operation, carried out under the auspices of the CoPReGI (Committee for the Prevention and Repression of Illegal Gambling), involved the collaboration of several law enforcement agencies.

Officials from the Abruzzo Monopolies Office, working alongside the Guardia di Finanza (Financial Guard), the Carabinieri (military police), and the State Police, executed a series of inspections across numerous commercial establishments in the Pescara province.

The aim of these inspections was to protect citizens and prevent the illicit erosion of state revenue derived from illegal gambling activities. The targeted establishments were selected following a thorough risk analysis, utilizing gathered intelligence, on-the-ground observations, and coordinated information sharing between the participating law enforcement bodies.

Extensive Operation Uncovers Violations

Between May 20th and May 31st, 2025, a total of 19 interventions were carried out across the provincial territory. These interventions involved planned inspections of various types of businesses offering different forms of gambling.

The inspections revealed several administrative violations related to entertainment taxes and the failure to display the list of prohibited games, as required by Article 110 of the T.U.L.P.S. (Testo Unico delle Leggi di Pubblica Sicurezza – Consolidated Law on Public Safety), in two establishments. This particular violation constitutes a criminal offense, leading to the reporting of the crime to the competent judicial authority.

Furthermore, authorities discovered six unauthorized Amusement With Prize (AWP) machines and one unattended gaming room.

Collaboration Key to Success

The collaborative effort between the involved administrations and the effective operational coordination in the gambling sector has enabled the Abruzzo Monopolies Office to actively monitor its area of responsibility. This proactive approach aims to prevent the practice of illegal gambling and betting.
