Mexico’s Interior Secretary Addresses Casino Corruption Concerns

Mexico’s Interior Secretary, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, is actively engaging with casino owners across the country to proactively prevent potential corruption cases, according to President Claudia Sheinbaum.

During her morning press conference this Friday, President Sheinbaum explained that Secretary Rodríguez is emphasizing the importance of immediate reporting should any form of corruption be detected, to effectively prevent such schemes from taking root.

Sheinbaum acknowledged the possibility of lingering corruption among some officials who remained from previous administrations, prior to President López Obrador’s tenure.

“This effort is part of the current government’s commitment to eliminate corrupt practices and improve transparency in the gaming and lottery industry,” the President stated.

During the same press conference, Sheinbaum clarified that despite recent announcements from Ricardo Monreal, the president of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) in the Chamber of Deputies, there is no new Law on Games and Sweepstakes currently under consideration.

The President noted that the existing law governing games and sweepstakes dates back to 1946 and is outdated. However, there is no concrete proposal for its modification at this time.

President Sheinbaum praised Secretary Rodríguez as “very honest, with character, an extraordinary public servant, one of the best our country has.”
